The summer is upon us, and with it lots of outdoor activities and sports. Whether you’re working on baseball tournaments, soccer games or gearing up for football in the fall, you need to make sure that your mouth is protected.
Every parent worries about their child being injured during sports activities. Yet in spite of this, about 70 percent of parents say that their child does not use a mouth guard. Often you are focused on the possibility of broken arms or cracked shins, but the truth is that there are many more mouth related injuries.
Our Brooklyn orthodontist team is well aware of the dangers that sports presents to our young patients, and we are happy to help. Dr. Polina Ingberman believes that this is so important we will help your child get a mouth guard if they are one of our patients. It is all part of our Brace Central program.
In addition to wearing a mouth guard, make sure your kids remember to:
- Wear face protection
- Wear helmets when appropriate
- Wear protective eye wear
- Be constantly vigilant and observing of surroundings
- Have fun!
All of these things will help your child enjoy a successful, injury free season. Especially if your child wears braces or has recently had braces, you want to protect your investment and their smile. Mouth guards are the only way to make sure that your child doesn’t have to worry about broken braces and teeth. As always, please let us know if you have any questions, or if you would like help choosing a mouth guard for your child.
