Biography
Dr. Amalya Igityan is a board-certified orthodontist with more than 20 years of experience helping patients achieve healthy, confident smiles. She began her career earning a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Yerevan State Medical University in 2000. After practicing dentistry for several years, she advanced her training at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine, graduating in the top 10% of her class with honors and multiple awards in orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, and periodontics.
Following graduation, Dr. Igityan completed both a one-year General Practice Residency and a three-year Orthodontic Residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. Today, she practices orthodontics in New York, providing care for children, teens, and adults. Her expertise includes braces, Invisalign®, and a wide range of orthodontic appliances designed to create lasting, natural-looking results.
Clinical approach
Dr. Igityan practiced general dentistry for several years in Yerevan before coming to the U.S. for advanced training at Columbia University, where she graduated in the top 10% of her class with awards in orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, and periodontics. That general practice background changed how she thinks about tooth movement. She watches what is happening with the gums and bone, not only the alignment.
After Columbia, she completed both a general practice residency and a three-year orthodontic residency at Maimonides Medical Center. Years of general dentistry before specializing mean she catches complications early and plans treatment around the whole mouth, not only the teeth that need to move. Gum health during orthodontic treatment gets particular attention from her, especially with adult patients where periodontal risk is higher.
