Biography
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Dr. Raitzel Bernstein is a board-certified orthodontist dedicated to delivering precise, patient-centered care.
She graduated summa cum laude from Touro University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from New York University College of Dentistry, finishing in the top 1% of her class. Her academic excellence earned her induction into Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU), the National Dental Honor Society, which recognizes students who exemplify the highest standards of scholarship, ethics, and professionalism.
Following dental school, Dr. Bernstein completed a General Practice Residency (GPR) at Mount Sinai Hospital, where she gained advanced training in emergency dentistry, pediatric care, and oral surgery. She then returned to Brooklyn to complete a three-year residency in Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics at Maimonides Medical Center, where she now serves as an attending orthodontist and clinical instructor, helping train the next generation of specialists.
As a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, Dr. Bernstein is committed to clinical excellence and lifelong learning. She stays current with the latest advances in orthodontic biomechanics and clear aligner therapy. Patients know her for her compassionate care, attention to detail, and dedication to creating a warm, personalized orthodontic journey.
Clinical approach
Dr. Bernstein grew up in Brooklyn and has stayed in the neighborhood. Her orthodontic residency at Maimonides focused on biomechanics, and her general practice year at Mount Sinai before that gave her hands-on time with emergency dental care, pediatrics, and oral surgery. She explains the reasoning behind each recommendation to patients and parents rather than just handing over a treatment plan.
She follows developments in clear aligner therapy and newer bracket designs, and uses them when they actually cut treatment time or improve results. Patients tend to mention her attention to detail first, both in reviews and in person. It shows from the first set of records through the final retainer check.
Teaching at Maimonides Medical Center
Dr. Bernstein is an attending orthodontist and clinical instructor at Maimonides Medical Center, the same program she graduated from. She supervises residents in clinic, reviews their mechanics, and teaches case-based sessions. Being around residents keeps her connected to current research and gives her a second angle on the methods she uses at Brace Central.
